About Random Duck Race
The free online duck race that turned “who’s paying for lunch?” into the most suspenseful — and fairest — random picker on the internet.
Born from an office lunch break
In late 2023, in a small tech office in Saigon, Vietnam, lunchtime was always chaotic. Nobody could ever agree on where to eat. Rock-paper-scissors caused drama. Random name pickers were boring. Everyone complained.
So one weekend, a slightly annoyed developer built something ridiculous: “Let’s race some ducks. The fastest duck picks where we eat.”
Within seconds the whole office was screaming, laughing and emotionally invested in ducks. That day we didn’t just pick a lunch spot — we accidentally invented pure joy in browser form.
From Vietnam to the world
We put it online as RandomDuckRace.com. A few weeks later it was being used far beyond our office:
Teachers
Picking who answers next, forming random groups, and turning review lessons into races. 10 classroom ideas.
Streamers
Running giveaways and duck tournaments live, with viewers cheering for their duck.
Offices & friends
Lunch spots, snack duties, meeting orders and who speaks first at stand-up.
What is Random Duck Race?
Random Duck Race is a free online duck race and random picker. Type in any list — students, players, teams, chores, dinner options — and every entry becomes a duck in a 3D river. The current, the rapids and the slipstream decide who crosses the line first. It is the most entertaining way to make a random decision: far more exciting than a spinning wheel or a name drawn from a hat, and every bit as fair.
People around the world know it by many names: a duck race randomizer, a virtual duck race, a duck race generator, or simply a free duck race — the easiest way to start an online duck competition with a single click.
The new 3D duck race
In 2026 we rebuilt the whole game from the water up. The ducks now race in a real-time 3D river with day, dusk and night, a camera that follows the leaders, live commentary and a proper podium for the champion. And for the first time, everyone can play together:
- Rooms — the race runs on the big screen while every player joins from their own phone with a QR code or a PIN, picks a duck, chats and cheers.
- Up to 1,000 ducks in a single race, with more than 170 3D duck skins.
- 16 languages, from English and Tiếng Việt to हिन्दी and Bahasa Melayu.
- Fair by design — every duck races under exactly the same rules. Run the fairness test to see it for yourself.
Every change is listed in the changelog.
